At the 2021 MaAOHN Annual Meeting the following Awards were given:

2021 MaAOHN Profiles in Courage Award:  Barbara Gentile RN, COHN/CM, C-SAPA

The MaAOHN Profiles in Courage Award recognizes the nurse that possesses courage in the face of adversity. A nurse who demonstrates leadership qualities and faces the challenges in nursing with a strong resolve to improve the quality of health and safety in the workplace.

Congratulations to the 2021 recipient, Barbara Gentile RN, COHN/CM, C-SAPA!

Barbara is a strong leader who never hesitates to do the right thing. She stands by and in front her team to manage adversity, which includes contentious encounters, as well as employees’ negative response to policies and processes during the pandemic.

With employee safety and health top of mind, Barbara reminds employees to wear masks correctly and follow social distancing.  She has an amazing rapport with management and the union, and always supports her physician and nurses’. She is an advocate for keeping all staff members safe, in a civil work environment.

While it would be easier to back away and remain silent, Barbara has a “not on my watch attitude” that takes courage, professionalism, knowledge, and strength.

2021 MaAOHN Nurse Excellence Award:    Lyssa Hapgood BSN, RN, OHN

Congratulations to Lyssa Hapgood BSN, RN, OHN for her outstanding contributions to the MaAOHN Board, specifically while on the Nominating Committee. Her compassionate care of employees, diligent record keeping, medical surveillance exam compliance, and outstanding work ethic, are all worthy of this recognition.

Lyssa is a member of the Massachusetts Immunization Action Coalition. She is a certified in Hearing Conservation and Spirometry, an Office Ergonomic Evaluator, and RN licensed in MA and RI. She is currently a graduate student in UMass Lowell’s Nurse Practitioner program.

2021 Dorothy Reid Lifetime Achievement Award:  Marcia Estes RN, COHN

MaAOHN is proud to present Marcia Estes RN, COHN with the prestigious Dorothy Reid Lifetime Achievement Award.

Throughout Marcia’s long-standing career she embraced many roles, and currently serves on the MaAOHN Board of Directors as our esteemed Treasurer. 

We recognize Marcia for her years of dedication, enthusiasm, commitment, and outstanding service in the field of Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing.

The award conveys its recipient lifetime membership status in MaAOHN.
