MaAOHN President's Message-December 2020

Dear MaAOHN Members,

I would like to introduce the 2021 MaAOHN Board of Directors and Officers:

2020 has been quite the year to say the least.  MaAOHN had one Educational Meeting:  “Nursing Considerations with Neurological Disorders: How to Assess and Manage”.  All other scheduled Educational Meetings were cancelled due to the Pandemic.

As stated in the 'Profile in Courage' "this is an unprecedented year.  Occupational and public health nurses have been challenged by the global pandemic.  The coronavirus has impacted the economy, businesses, supply chain, government, and the health and wellbeing of our people. Health education of management, workers, and their families has been crucial.  Companies, in this year of need, have noticed and finally understand the important role the Occupational Health Nurse plays in the health and wellbeing of employees.  Our nurses have risen to this incredible challenge with poise, hard work, long hours, continuous learning, professionalism, and frankly, courage."

In October the MaAOHN BOD voted to present every MaAOHN member with the 'Profile in Courage' Award.  A certificate and letter was mailed to each MaAOHN Member in Novemeber (if you have not received one please contact me and we will send one.)

Usually at each Educational Meeting there is a charitable donation set up and with just being able to have one Educational meeting there was less donated.  This along how hard hit the economy has been prompted the MaAOHN BOD in December to propose at the Annual Meeting to send $500 to 4 Food Banks - one in the Greater Boston, North of Boston, Central Mass and Western Mass areas.  The vote at the Annual Meeting on December 4th was unanimous to send the money to the Food Banks.

On December 3rd & 4th the Annual MaAOHN/NECOEM Conference was held virtually-which was a new experience for most of us.  The anecdotal feedback was very positive, the networking was a little challenging but the content was very good.  On a personal note while I am glad we were all safer I did miss seeing everybody in person.  Check out the Picture Gallery for pictures at our Annual Meeting taken by our own Nancy Clover.

Reach out to any Board Member (www.MaAOHN.com/contact) if there is anything we can do to support you.

'Take wonderful care of yourself so that you can be your best in your professional and personal roles. ' Be safe and as my new favorite mantra says "'She belived she could so she did' which I think is proven daily by our Occupational Health Nurses!

Take care and stay warm!

With warmest Regards,
Penny Clark
MaAOHN President
