Program AGENDA
This presentation will discuss the origins and predispositions of emerging public health challenges, highlighting how they are related to how we live in a global society. Advances in technology that allows recognition of conditions and relationships that could not be identified in the past will also be described as well as recent diseases in the news, including acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), foodborne illnesses and Zika virus with a review of the epidemiology and context in which they occur.
Program Objectives:

Discuss the factors that favor increased risk for emerging infections

Describe how advances in laboratory and information technology make identification of infection and outbreaks more likely

Explain acute flaccid myelitis and Zika virus disease are examples of the factors that make outbreaks more readily identified and appreciated.

Those who attend this continuing education activity will be awarded 1.0 contact hour.
To successfully complete this program and receive a contact hour you must:
1) sign in;
2) be present for the entire time period of the session;
3) complete and submit the program evaluation.
The Massachusetts Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Donations: There will be a 50/50 raffle. One chance for $5.00. The winner will split the pot. The other 50% to be donated to Doctors Without Borders
