The Emperor Needs More Clothes: Expanding our Treatment Inventory in Slow Recoveries: Words, Interactions, and Relationships

Jennifer Christian, MD, MPH, FACOEM President and Medical Director, Webility Corporation Founder and Chair, ACOEM Work Fitness and Disability Section

Wednesday, December 12, 2018 Breakfast 6:45 AM/Lecture 7:00 – 8:00 AM Memorial Chapel – 1st Floor Main Building New England Baptist

Dr. Christian is President and Medical Director of Webility Corporation. Originally trained as a board-certified occupational medicine physician, she has demonstrated her ability as a leader in a variety of settings and geographic locales. She has built a foundation of broad expertise during her 20+ year career. Dr. Christian has designed programs that simultaneously align incentives, improve outcomes, and reduce costs. She has led successful development and implementation teams. Dr. Christian is the Founder and current Chair of the ACOEM Work Fitness and Disability Section, and the multi-disciplinary Work Fitness & Disability Roundtable. She is also Course Director for three ACOEM continuing medical education courses on improving functional outcomes and preventing work disability. In the mid-2000’s, she became intrigued by “failed” recoveries – unexpectedly poor outcomes. She developed a pioneering non-medical program called Maze-Masters to help people reduce their symptoms and reclaim their lives. In recent years, she has made significant contributions to the US Department of Labor’s Stay-at-Work & Return-to-Work Policy Collaborative and to the bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget’s efforts to stabilize the Social Security Disability Insurance system. Her proposal to establish a Community-Focused Health & Work Service has been credited with “inspiring and providing a vision” for RETAIN, the Federal government’s new $100 million demonstration project intended to reduce needless work disability among workers with newly acquired musculoskeletal conditions over the next 5 years.
