QUALIFICATIONS: 1. C urrent/valid nursing license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2. M aster’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) required 3. P erioperative experience required with a minimum of 3 years current Operating Room experience. 4. P refer Ortho OR experience 5. L eadership experience strongly preferred 6. CNOR preferred. I will Extend myself GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Assistant Nurse Director (AND) is an important member of the unit-based leadership team in clinical practice environments to extend leadership presence and provide clinical support. In this role the Assistant Nurse Director provides nursing leadership supporting varied specialties of the Operating Room at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Under the leadership/direction of the Nurse Director of the Operating Room , the Assistant Nurse Director is a representative of the Department of Nursing and supports the Nurse Director in translating the vision and values of the department at the unit-level for the purpose of meeting the needs of patients and families and in creating a therapeutic, healing patient/family centered practice environment. The Assistant Nurse Director helps to develop the very best staff, assists with assessing clinical patterns within populations, and facilitates mobilization/allocation of resources to meet the immediate needs of patients and families. The Associate Nurse Director may perform leadership functions as developmentally appropriate under the mentorship and coaching of the nurse director and may be assigned the management of specific projects. This role requires to rotate overlap of shifts PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Professional Practice Environment 1. P rovides support in the environment to facilitate excellent nursing practice 2. P romotes and supports the Department of Nursing vision as well as unit based mission, values, and goals 3. F acilitates true collaboration and effective communication and respect for diverse perspectives through role-modeling and coaching clinical staff and members of the interprofessional team 4. P articipates in daily huddles/rounds with clinical staff for the purpose of clinical consultation, coaching, and problem-solving B. Personnel Management 0. M anages day to day staffing based on unit-based guidelines approved by the Nurse Director 1. M anages resources in a changing environment by allocating resources to respond to dynamic changes in patient census and acuity 2. P rovides guidance to clinical staff on patient assignments with continuity of care and knowing the patient as a core value in addition to facilitating the development of clinical staff 3. P articipates in scheduling and approving requests from clinical staff under the direction of the Nurse Director 4. P articipates in the investigation and administration of corrective action under the direction of the Nurse Director/Nurse Administrator 5. P rovides Nurse Director with recommendation for corrective action and performance improvement plans 6. P rovides Nurse Director with recommendations for evaluations for clinical staff 7. P rovides support to staff in clinical support roles under the direction of the Nurse Director 8. P erforms evaluations of support staff under the direction of the nurse director 9. D evelops education and training for support staff and works with nurse director to integrate these groups into the larger interprofessional team C. Clinical Leadership 0. F unctions as a clinical expert emulating the vision and mission of the Department of Nursing 1. I nterprets policies and procedures for staff members 2. I mplements and monitors unit-based standards 3. F acilitates and expedites patient flow to ensure that patients and families receive appropriate and timely care in the Operating Room. D. Professional Development Self 0. P articipates in self-performance appraisal in ongoing manner. 1. S eeks feedback from his/her respective nurse director and other colleagues 2. S hares strengths and areas to be developed with others 3. I dentifies opportunities to continue to develop leaderships skills and expertise Staff 4. U nderstands stages of nursing practice development 5. P rovides developmentally appropriate coaching and clinical consultation to clinical staff 6. S upports all staff in identifying and participating in professional developmental activities E. Project Management 0. P rovides leadership and participates in unit-based projects under the direction of the nurse director 1. P romotes and assists with the implementation of clinical practice changes and quality initiatives on the patient care unit 2. E ngages clinical staff in the implementation and evaluation of clinical practice changes on the patient care unit F. Patients and Families 0. F acilitates all patients and families feeling known by clinical staff 1. G uides clinical staff in the development of a plan of care that is culturally sensitive and honors the uniqueness of each patient and family 2. P rovides coaching and mentoring with clinical staff to facilitate the development of partnerships with patients and families 3. P rovides consultation to clinical staff in the management of challenging patients and families 4. P articipates in family meetings with the nurse director 5. F acilitates family meetings in the Nurse Director’s absence in consultation with executive director/nurse administrator or available leadership
