Course Objectives:

  • Build a foundational understanding of financial basics useful to nursing leadership.
  • Gain an understanding of performance measurement and learn the basics of capital budgeting.

  • Top of license practice and how finance plays a part.

Angela A. Appiah
Angela A. Appiah Ph.D., DNP, MPH, RN, COA, FAACM

Associate Chief Nursing Officers, Ambulatory Care, James J. Peters VA Medical Center

Dr. Angela A. Appiah's influence in the global healthcare landscape, diverse roles, and experience with non-profit and for-profit organizations, NCI-designated Cancer Centers, and academic health centers/hospitals demonstrate her breadth of knowledge. Her healthcare experience in urban and rural settings, LMICs, community hospitals, and diverse global settings further highlights her international perspective, enlightening the audience with her varied experience. Dr. Angela A. Appiah currently serves as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) for the Ambulatory Care services at the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JPP VAMC). In addition to the ACNO role, she manages the Health Promotion Disease Prevention Program (HPDP). Dr. Appiah's commitment to education is further demonstrated by her position as an Adjunct Associate Professor for Pace University Lienhard School of Nursing and Health Science programs with the School of Health Professionals. She is also the founder and CEO of Global Population Health Consulting, LLC. Dr. Appiah chairs of the New York Organization of Nursing Leadership (NYONL) education and planning committee. She obtained her Ph.D. in nursing science from Pace University, DNP concentration in healthcare leadership from Capella University, MSN from Vanderbilt University, in Health Systems Management, MPH in Health Policy and Management from New York Medical College, MA in Counseling, & BA in Nursing/minor in psychology from Eastern Mennonite University. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Population Health Management from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Graduate Certificate in Managed Care from New York Medical College. Her unique expertise in academia, clinical practice, program development, research, operations, and global health systems management through population health sets her apart. She is a current fellow of Case Western Reserve University's Nurse Executive program and a Fellow of the American Academy of Case Management

Quyen Wong
Quyen Wong DNP, MPA, RN, NE-BC

Director of Nursing Operations, NYU Langone Health

Quyen Wong, DNP, MPA, RN, NE-BC is nurse executive with over 20 years of diverse experience in the nursing profession, and 10 years of progressive leadership experience at a Magnet designated academic Healthcare System, where she currently is a Senior Director of Nursing Operations. Dr. Wong received her BSN from Rutgers University, MSN and MPA from Hunter/Baruch College, and DNP from Yale University. Her DNP work consisted of creating an educational program to elevate the financial acumen of nurse leaders. Dr. Wong is a respected, technological savvy business leader with an elevated financial acumen, demonstrated ability to lead change in complex environment and proven track record of improving patient experience and team engagement through fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Eve Dorfman
Eve Dorfman DNP, RN, NEA-BC

Eve Dorfman DNP, RN, NEA-BC has held many diverse roles in nursing and leadership throughout her twenty-eight-year career. In her current role as vice president for operations at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island, she oversees the home hospital, hospice and home health services, dialysis services, respiratory/occupational/physical therapies, hospital medicine services, and patient flow. Dr. Dorfman teaches in the Master’s in Nursing Leadership program at Stony Brook University, where she created the curriculum for the Finance and Economics in Nursing Leadership class. She is well known as a thought leader in the healthcare finance arena and is a sought-out expert in applying financial concepts to healthcare operations. Dr. Dorfman has previously served as the treasurer for the Greater New York Nassau Suffolk Organization of Nurse Leaders (GNYNSONL). During her four-year tenure, she has successfully managed the financial aspects of the regional chapter including but not limited to financial budgeting, planning, and income and expense management. Dr. Dorfman holds a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Stony Brook University, a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Binghamton University, a master’s degree in nursing informatics from New York University, a post-master’s certificate in nursing administration from Villanova University and a doctor of nursing practice in transformative leadership systems through Rush University. She also holds a certification as an advanced nurse executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Kathleen Kane
Kathleen Kane PhD, RN

Kathleen Kane has her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University and her Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Fordham University. Dr. Kane is a member of the adjunct faculty at Fairleigh Dickenson University and Mercy College. Professionally she has served in progressive leadership roles including Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Education, Professional Practice, Evidence Based Practice and Research. Her area of research focuses on self-efficacy in Nursing and supporting new graduates in the transition to the acute care environment.

Jeanmarie Moorehead
Jeanmarie Moorehead EdD, MA, RN, NEA-BC

In her career, Dr. Moorehead has held a variety of clinical, administrative, and education positions, including Nurse Educator, Nurse Manager, Director of Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Senior Director of Critical Care Nursing. In her current role, Dr. Moorehead serves as the Senior Director of Operations at NYU Langone Health where she oversees the Certified Home Health Agency and the Home Hospital program. Dr. Moorehead earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Molloy University, a Master of Arts degree in Organization and Leadership from Teachers College - Columbia University, and a Doctor of Education degree in organization and leadership from the Executive Program for Nurses at Teachers College - Columbia University. Dr. Moorehead has been an active member of GNYNSONL since 2006. She is currently the President – elect of the GNYNSONL Region, is on the NYONL Research Committee and a contributing author to the organization’s most recent study titled Self-Care Practices among NYONEL Nurse Leaders. Additionally, she is a member of the NYONL Annual Conference Planning Committee, the NYS Action Collation (NYSAC) for the Future of Nursing, and the NYSAC Diversity Equity and Inclusion sub-committee. Dr. Moorehead is a past Margaret McClure Scholar recipient. Her doctoral research investigated the relationships among nurse manager education levels, leadership styles, empowerment, and patient safety. She is passionate about healthy work environments, the practice of nursing administration, and the promotion of transformational leadership.
